Sports

The sports program provides students with opportunities to make friends and connect with others beyond their class.

Wantirna College has a strong commitment to our sporting program.

We compete in the Knox division in a range of different sports including:  AFL, Hockey, Soccer, Baseball, Netball, Softball, Badminton, Basketball, Table Tennis, Tennis, Volleyball, Cricket, Swimming, Athletics and Cross Country.  Training for these teams occurs mostly at lunch time with the occassional morning or afternoon session depending on availability of students and coaches.

In addition to the regular inter school sport opportunities the College runs three carnivals each year for all students, swimming, athletics and cross country.  These events are an opportunity for the student body and staff to come together and enjoy supporitng each other in sporting endeavours. We compete in houses:  Byrne (Blue), Rees (Red), Collier (Yellow) and Mason (Green). These are named for the early opineers in the Knox area.  Students are strongly encouraged to dress in their house colours to support their team.  Parents/guardians are also warmly invited to attend the day as spectators or to assist by officiating

For students who do not wish to take part in formal races/events, there is still plenty to do with a wide range of novelty events at the swimming and athletics or marshalling duties to support the running of each event.
