Dance

At Wantirna College, we emphasis a deep appreciation of dance as an expressive art form and a pathway for future opportunities.

Our dance program provides a supportive, inclusive and high-achieving environment where every student is encouraged to grow as both an artist and an individual.

Starting in years 9 and 10, students can select from a number of different dance subjects designed to cater to varying interests and experience levels. From foundational technique and skill development, to specialised subjects in dance making and analysis, students are supported to explore different dance styles and choreographic techniques whilst building a versatile skill set. Students are also provided with multiple opportunities to showcase their growth and development through performance evenings that take place throughout the year.

Year 9 & 10

  • Dance: Styles and Skills
  • Dance: Choreography Creation
  • Dance: Mastery

In senior years, our VCE Dance program challenges students to refine their technical skills and artistry through the integrated practices of choreography, performance and analysis. Across Units 1 – 4, students explore and expand their movement vocabulary, whilst applying safe dance practice and demonstrating a clear understanding of artistic intention. A strong emphasis is also placed on reflection and critical analysis, empowering students to evaluate their own work and that of others within diverse cultural and contemporary contexts.
