Wantirna College provides opportunities for students to develop stage and behind-the-scenes skills in a safe, inclusive and practical classroom environment.
Year 8 Drama
Year 8 students explore Drama as part of their core subjects. Over one semester, students develop an understanding of mime and comedy, culminating with a class performance for both units. Students build their vocabulary and their practical drama skills, giving them a taste of senior theatre and drama classes.
Year 9/10
In year 9 and 10, there are two Drama electives and two Theatre. The Drama subjects further students’ skills as performers developing their acting and creating skills and students explore Naturalism, Elizabethan and contemporary styles of acting. The Theatre subjects explore non-acting pathways including directing, set design, costume design, lighting, staging and sound.
Additionally, the Watch and Critique elective explores how students can respond to live theatre with the opportunity to attend four productions over the semester.

VCE Theatre Studies
At VCE, Theatre Studies provides students with the opportunity to further refine their acting, design or backstage skills. Across Units 1 – 4, students explore an array of theatrical styles, watch a series of professional productions, and have multiple opportunities to apply their learning in practical spaces. VCE Theatre Studies culminates in each student performing or designing for an individually assessed monologue.
