Connect

All students have should have opportunities to Connect.

The Connect Program supports students with identified social and emotional literacy needs, including those experiencing disengagement, school refusal, or requiring behaviour redirection.

This social and emotional education program supports students who require explicit and targeted support in forming and sustaining positive relationships, managing and expressing their emotions, improving verbal and non-verbal communication, and building their capacity to manage behaviours and interactions with others. Through a range of hands-on learning activities and experiences to ‘practice’ their skills, the program aims to develop a strong sense of self awareness and improved perspective taking, with an emphasis on:

  • Engagement
  • Behaviour redirection
  • Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)
  • Mentoring & Leadership

Connect provides a safe and structured environment where students re-engage with learning through hands-on activities and practical projects. Social and emotional learning (SEL) is embedded into meaningful tasks, allowing students to develop skills in an authentic and purposeful way.

The program is highly flexible, with approaches tailored to the needs of each group. For some students, explicit teaching of strategies is necessary, while for others, skills are developed more implicitly through collaboration, problem-solving, and shared experiences. Connect also builds leadership and life skills, encouraging responsibility, resilience, and independence. By combining practical projects with targeted support, the program helps students grow in confidence and develop the tools needed to thrive at school and beyond.
