Ignite Literacy

This program offers reading intervention sessions structured to include specially designed activities to improve students’ speed of word recognition, reading fluency and comprehension skills. Year 7 students selected to participate in this program participate in three short reading intervention sessions a week with our very experienced tutors. Activities include:

• timed flash card activities on a set of focused words
• vocabulary activities
• repeated readings of text to improve reading fluency
• scaffolded use of comprehension strategies
• reading games designed to consolidate students word recognition and word meaning knowledge.

Numeracy Intervention Program

Year 7 students selected for this program participate in three short intervention sessions a week with highly skilled tutors. The well-paced sessions support students to improve number-facts, automaticity, and basic operations skills. As students complete a 30-week program, they develop strategies to solve number problems and confidence confidently articulate their thinking process to solve number problems.
