Physical Education
Understanding the importance of physical activity and being able to develop skills that will assist in maintaining physical fitness are essential to a healthy and happy life.
Health and Physical Education are compulsory for students at Wantirna College from Years 7-10.
Studies in Physical Education offers students a practical curriculum that is contemporary, relevant, challenging, enjoyable and gets children physically active. The implementation of a broad and balanced program is designed to develop students’ knowledge, skills and attitudes in relation to physical activity. Through the promotion of active lifelong learning in physical activity, participation and enhanced performance, students develop proficiency in the acquisition of movement skills, 21st century skills, as well as concepts and strategies to enable students to confidently, competently and creatively participate in a range of physical activities.
Studies in Health has a strong focus on supporting students to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills they require to make healthy, safe and active choices that will enhance their own and others’ health and wellbeing. This includes Nutrition, Respectful Relationships, Body Image, Positive Psychology, Mental Health and Harm Minimisation. Students develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to strengthen their sense of self, and build and manage satisfying relationships.
